HOW THE MANAGER INVESTS
WHAT IS YOUR INVESTING STRATEGY? (GROWTH, VALUE, TECHNICAL ANALYSIS, ETC.)
answer --> I use many strategies coupled together with a rating scale based on risk, profit potential and amount of insider buying. I especially like many foreign stocks, which cannot be used here, as there are few ADR's; though I still use quite a few. I like the Japanese market most having so many great bargains!!! Stocks chosen with larger starting investment should be held for more than five years, excluding the Maverick Quant Fund (Symbol: DMQQX)where each selection would be held for 1 to 5 years. Canceled following my tech fund as time was running out and did not believe it could recover with only one year remaining of the three years allowed. Replaced it with a conservative Widows & Orphan Fund, but also canceled after only a few weeks with the Quant Fund containing mostly high priced shares more to the liking for Stu Brunet manager of the Marketocracy M100 Fund. Who called me in June 2002 stating I was the best, but I quickly surmised he was giving me a line to feel me out and learn something at my expense, so I gave him one back. After being notified by letters I was in the M100 not being paid for June and July leaves a bad taste in my mouth. But this has been my typical experience dealing with people in the investment industry. Most are brainwashed to think it is gambling, which it is most of the time but not always. Of course it is odds but one should only take a chance when the odds are far in ones favor by doing proper due diligence. The funds that will be created from the track records of these mock funds can only continue at the high rate of returns if the same paradigm continues for several more years in the future. Starting a fund now using the outstanding stock performers from these mock funds cannot make the same dollar returns starting at a later date. Short-term speculative trades would have to be used, which normally underperform the indexs. (Hedging can help a lot rather than staying completely on the buy side.) I am capable of analyzing stocks in all industries along with using shorts, options and futures. I pretty much like to buy bargains in whatever industry I can find them not to be locked into a certain industry based on a current outperfoming paradigm though it may continue for several more years; such as my belief of the mining industry. (Even though it will go through some severly overbought periods.) So pretty much I like to have as much leeway to make money anywhere I can find an opportunity. That is why I use the word Maverick for my funds as that is truly my style.
HOW DO YOU SELECT NEW COMPANIES FOR YOUR FUNDS?
answer --> Look for companies with strong insider buying and news minipulation situations or any other special situation where I can see value, as the markets are not totally random until prices get very expensive with mostly public buying and insider selling after years of price appreciation. Have not changed anything since I started analyzing stocks years ago. What drove me to this industry was a high school economics class project. Each student was to pick a stock and follow it for two weeks. Anyway I made the largest percent gain of 25% at got the worst grade because my reasons were not the reasons the teacher liked. So here is a clue to obtain large returns one must be doing something entirely different from most. The first stock I ever bought was for my mother purchasing Charter Company for $4 per share selling it 2 years later for $42. It had the greatest price return percent of all stocks traded on the NYSE that year. I actually cut my teeth trading commodities and found stocks to be like child's play with all the information available. My worst problem is I often see a paradigm years before it actually materializes buying to early because of greed not waiting to time my entry, which is forced more under these mock trading conditions to force out performance. But it all comes out ok in the wash.
HOW DO YOU DECIDE TO REMOVE A STOCK FROM YOUR FUNDS?
answer --> After no less than 250% profit otherwise I sit tight using no stops. A few of the stocks over many years will rise 5000 to 10000%. Because of compliance rules (that do hurt fund performance rules) and doing constant research I do sell out some stocks with profits and losses while letting it remain in another mock fund, as a million dollars does not go very far these days; even though inflation statistics put out by government have for years been telling the public to believe inflation does not exist. Correct on raw commodity prices but nothing else! This is all going to change!!! Discovering early that fills were not completed reliably using short-term trading on the Marketocracy system I elected for long-term trading though I like short-term trading; but because of the manual work to cover to many stocks I see it is not feasible to do for me for a fund.
