HOW THE MANAGER INVESTS
WHAT IS YOUR INVESTING STRATEGY? (GROWTH, VALUE, TECHNICAL ANALYSIS, ETC.)
answer --> Field of expertise is medicine and biotechnology. I try to find stocks that have technology platforms that are novel or serve an important medical need or niche. I evaluate the technology, lead compounds and or the trials a company is doing. Success is based on a non-financial knowledge base that the Street and analyst-types don't have, and of course don't spend much time learning about.
HOW DO YOU SELECT NEW COMPANIES FOR YOUR FUNDS?
answer --> I don't screen stocks. Critical evaluation of what they do and in what market they hope to compete.
HOW DO YOU DECIDE TO REMOVE A STOCK FROM YOUR FUNDS?
answer --> I am learning to do this on the seat of my pants. I usually have a target at which I believe the stock to be fully valued. Unfortunately, in the biotech world this is rarely underpinned by financials. A lot of timing in biotech has to do with when the world finds out about the company. And, of course, many companies tend to work that until the strategy implodes.
