| HOW
THE MANAGER INVESTS |
| WHAT
IS YOUR INVESTING STRATEGY? (GROWTH, VALUE, TECHNICAL ANALYSIS, ETC.) |
|
answer --> |
I am a value investor and look for companies that for whatever reason may be temporarily undervalued. Some examples are:
-Forced massive stock sale by investment bank due to contractual obligation (as in EGY's 1818 fund in 2005)
-Temporarily poor markets such as NG in February/March of 2006
-Widespread (and likely temporary) scares such as BSE/Bird flu which depress high-quality stocks. Someone will eventually find a cure and people will not entirely stop eating those products in the interim.
|
| HOW
DO YOU SELECT NEW COMPANIES FOR YOUR FUNDS? |
|
answer --> |
I use a value screener to narrow the field of choices and then cherry pick from that. I look for companies that are profitable, have a growing dividend, strong balance sheets and a nice growth rate. In times of economic uncertainty, I try to have about 50% of my fund in dividend-producing assets.
|
| HOW
DO YOU DECIDE TO REMOVE A STOCK FROM YOUR FUNDS? |
|
answer --> |
I like to buy cheap stocks (ones with a safety margin). I sell these stocks if they go down about 30% (I made a mistake!) or if they get so far ahead of themselves that I can't think of them as a value stock anymore. I like to see expanding stock prices coupled with a contracting PE. Those stocks, I'll hold "forever".
